Welcome To the Wyrd Hearth

You’ll find many things here. And specifically, on this page, you’ll find my blog — which means this needs to be an introduction of sorts, since this is the very first post.
I’ll admit, I asked for help writing this because I’m terrible at introductions. I’m not good on first dates. I’m more of a feral squirrel who would rather grab your hand and drag you through my adventures going, “Oh, see this — and look at that, isn’t it COOL?!”
If you’re feral like me, then perfect. Welcome to the roller coaster I call existence.
And if you’re a bit more reserved… well, then I suppose I’m really talking to you.
So, let’s address our name first. The following information can easily be found on Wikipedia, but:
Wyrd is a concept in Anglo-Saxon culture, roughly corresponding to fate or personal destiny.
Hearth: noun — the floor of a fireplace, often used as a symbol of one’s home.
That first definition is far too short for a concept so deep.
This isn’t just fate or personal destiny — it’s an ever-evolving tapestry of energy that plays upon our reality, sometimes weaving pleasant patterns, and sometimes… not so much.
To me, Wyrd is seeing my grandmother’s face when I crochet a shawl.
Wyrd is feeling my grandfather’s hand on my shoulders when I stand up for what I know is right.
The actions and energies, personalities and opinions of the past have helped mold me into who I am. Now I’m using my Wyrd here — showing my authentic self to you, and allowing that to seed and grow how it will, hopefully for good. And Hearth — because this is a joint venture.
I couldn’t do this without my other half: father of my children, my spouse of over 20 years, and my beloved partner in all things. Together, we are Dustyn (Fenix) & Maggie (Zenshyla), owners of The Wyrd Hearth.
Yes, I’m fairly certain our friends will attest that the name fits in all the ways.
If you’ve explored the other pages, you’ve already seen what we do: soaps, crochet goods, original art, incense. We’re a little all over the place — and that’s exactly as intended.
Here, I hope to elaborate on our creations as we go, to share our adventures, our process, our stories, and the quiet magic woven into the everyday.
Thank you for being here. Pull up a chair. The fire’s warm.
